Maelezo ya kazi

Department: Data Management Office

Job purpose

The role is responsible to operate the enterprise data catalogue as a reliable, secure and usable application. The role owns functional and application administration of the catalogue, including configuration, connectors, metadata harvesting, workflow configuration, catalogue access roles, monitoring and vendor escalation. The role does not own metadata definitions, lineage validation, business classification decisions, server infrastructure, databases or enterprise identity controls. These remain with the Metadata and Lineage specialists, Data Owners, ICT and control functions respectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade and administer the enterprise data catalogue across environments; manage collections/domains, asset types, custom attributes and templates in line with the metadata standards set by the Specialist, Metadata.
  • Register and maintain connections to core banking (T24), channel, MDM, data warehouse, lakehouse, ETL and BI sources; schedule and monitor automated scans so technical metadata stays current, and resolve scan failures with System Custodians.
  • Configure lineage extraction from databases, ETL/ELT pipelines and BI tools, and automated classification and sensitivity detection rules; validate results with the Specialist Data Lineage and Specialist, Metadata before publication.
  • Implement role-based access in the catalogue (administrators, curators, stewards, consumers) under least-privilege principles; integrate with enterprise identity (e.g., Active Directory/Entra ID) and ensure sensitive metadata and sample data are protected per Information Security and PDPA requirements.
  • Configure and maintain catalogue workflows for glossary term approval, ownership assignment, certification of assets, and data access requests, so that approvals are routed to the right Data Owners and Stewards and leave an audit trail.
  • Integrate the catalogue with data quality, MDM, data warehouse/lakehouse, BI and access-control platforms through connectors and APIs, so that quality scores, golden-record links, lineage and classifications appear against catalogue assets.
  • Monitor availability, performance, scan success, storage and licence usage; manage incidents, problems and changes through ICT service management; act as the Bank’s first-line catalogue support and lead Level 3 escalation with the vendor.
  • Report platform KPIs (sources onboarded, scan success rate, metadata freshness, lineage coverage, active users, search and access-request volumes, SLA performance) to the Manager and data governance forums.
  • Maintain audit logs, configuration documentation, run-books, backups and recovery procedures; support internal audit and regulatory reviews with evidence of catalogue controls.
  • Provide user onboarding, guides and training for stewards, curators and data consumers, and gather feedback to improve search, navigation and self-service features.

Sifa za mwombaji

and experience

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field.
  • Data catalogue vendor certification ( Microsoft Purview/Azure Data, Collibra, Informatica), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), DCAM certification, or ITIL Foundation.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data catalogue administration, metadata management, data governance, data management, information management, or related data platform support roles.
  • DAMA-DMBOK2 Metadata Management, Data Security, and Data Integration & Interoperability knowledge areas. EDM Council DCAM data and technology architecture and data governance capabilities, and how catalogue controls evidence them.
  • Data catalogue architecture: connectors, scanners, metadata models, lineage harvesting, classification engines, APIs and workflow engines. Identity and access management concepts (RBAC, least privilege, SSO), and the Personal Data Protection Act 2022 as it applies to metadata and sample data.
  • Relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server), data warehouse/lakehouse platforms, ETL/ELT tools (e.g., ODI, OGG), BI tools (Power BI), cloud and on-premise deployment, and ITIL service management. SQL proficiency and understanding of database system catalogues to troubleshoot scans and validate harvested metadata. Scripting and API skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, REST) to automate administration, bulk loads and integrations.
  • Hands-on administration of a data catalogue platform (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Informatica CDGC/EDC, Collibra, Alation, Ataccama, Apache Atlas). Configuration of workflows, roles, custom attributes and classification rules.
  • Structured troubleshooting, documentation and change-management discipline. Clear communication and user-support skills, with ability to train non-technical users.
  • Configure and administer catalogue application features, domains, asset types, attributes and templates in line with approved metadata standards; coordinate infrastructure and database activities with ICT. Configure and maintain approved source connections and scan schedules, monitor metadata harvesting and coordinate resolution of connectivity or scan failures. Operate lineage and classification scanners and publish results only after validation by the responsible Lineage, Metadata, Privacy or Security role.
  • Implement approved catalogue roles and access profiles, integrate with enterprise identity services and escalate identity or privileged-access issues to IAM and Information Security. Configure approved workflows for glossary review, ownership assignment, asset certification and data-access requests, ensuring complete audit trails. Configure supported catalogue integrations with data quality, MDM, data platforms, BI and access-control tools under approved designs.
  • Monitor application availability, performance, scan success, licence use and functional incidents; provide Level 2 support and coordinate Level 3 vendor escalation. Report catalogue application KPIs including source onboarding, scan success, freshness, platform usage and service performance. Maintain application configuration records, runbooks, audit logs and recovery requirements; ICT remains accountable for infrastructure backup and technical recovery execution. Provide application onboarding, user guides and training for stewards, curators and catalogue consumers.
