Job description

Department: Data Management Office

Job purpose

The role is responsible to create and maintain a trusted understanding of CRDB data assets, including business terms, definitions, data dictionaries, critical data elements, ownership and classification metadata. The role curates metadata content and implements approved metadata standards through the enterprise catalogue. The role supports regulatory compliance, data governance, data quality, reporting, analytics, AI initiatives, and business decision-making by providing clear visibility into data definitions, ownership, lineage, and usage.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enforce the Bank’s metadata framework, standards and procedures. Manage business, technical, and operational metadata within the bank's metadata repository. Ensure critical data elements (CDEs) are properly documented and maintained. Establish metadata naming conventions and classification standards. Maintain data dictionaries, glossaries, and data catalogs.
  • Collaborate with business units to define and document business terms. Facilitate approval and governance processes for business definitions. Ensure consistent use of terminology across the organization. Resolve conflicts related to data definitions and interpretations.
  • Produce and maintain data dictionaries for core banking, channel, MDM, data warehouse and lakehouse assets, and document critical data elements with definitions, valid values, owners and linked data quality rules.
  • Link metadata management activities with data quality initiatives. Define data quality rules and business definitions. Ensure quality metrics are aligned with approved metadata standards. Support remediation of metadata-related data quality issues.
  • Define what the catalogue must hold and run curation of technical, business and operational metadata, working with the Data Catalog Administrator on harvesting scope and validating harvested metadata for completeness and accuracy.
  • Link every catalogued asset and CDE to its Data Owner, Data Steward and System Custodian, and keep these assignments current as people and systems change.
  • Apply and maintain data classification and PII/sensitivity tags per the Data Classification Policy and the Personal Data Protection Act 2022, and supply these tags to access-control, privacy and retention processes in partnership with the DPO and Information Security.
  • Document end-to-end data lineage from source systems to reports and regulatory submissions. Identify data dependencies across systems and business processes. Perform impact assessments for system changes, regulatory requirements, and new initiatives. Support root cause analysis of data quality and reporting issues.
  • Define and report metadata KPIs (glossary coverage, CDE documentation rate, ownership coverage, classification coverage, metadata freshness, catalogue adoption) to the Manager and data governance forums, and drive closure of gaps.
  • Review new systems, data changes and projects (including DMP and MDM delivery) to ensure required metadata, definitions and classifications are delivered before go-live.
  • Train and support Data Stewards and data consumers on using the glossary and catalogue, and promote metadata-driven self-service across business units.
  • Support data scientists, analysts, and BI teams in locating trusted data sources. Maintain metadata required for AI and analytics use cases. Support data discoverability and reuse across the organization. Facilitate understanding of data for AI model development and governance

  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), DCAM certification (EDM Council), or a data catalogue vendor certification (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica) are added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Metadata Management, Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Management, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, or a related data management field.
  • Draft and maintain metadata standards, mandatory attributes, and curation procedures for Manager approval, implement approved requirements across assigned domains, and define content requirements while curating business and technical metadata in collaboration with the Catalogue Administrator.
  • Facilitate term and KPI definition with business stakeholders, maintain approved glossary content, administer versioning, review and retirement processes, and promote the consistent use of approved definitions through stakeholder training and awareness initiatives.
